Retired postal worker crashes into post office

A 76-year-old retired postal worker accidentally crashed his car Friday afternoon into the front entry of the Northridge Post Office in Harrison Twp.

The branch, at 5150 Payne Ave., will be closed Saturday, however local mail delivery will be unaffected, said David Van Allen, USPS spokesman.

The driver, who only suffered a minor scrape to his forehead, told News Center 7 that he retired from the very post office he accidentally struck just before 3:30 p.m. Friday. He said he drove to the post office to buy some stamps, but that he couldn't get his foot on the brake.

The man, whose name was not released, was driving a blue 2012 Ford Escape, said Montgomery County Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Moebius. He was trying to park in front of the building at the time of the accident, Moebius said.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
