WASHINGTON TWP. — Dirk Morgan was taking an evening canoe trip down the Little Miami River when, as he stopped the splash of his paddles, he noticed things were quiet.
Too quiet.
“It can be a little creepy out in the darkness,” said Morgan, generally a man of steel reserve and expert knowledge of the Little Miami River.
The spooky sensations of a nighttime trip through the deceptive quiets of nature has compelled Morgan’s Outdoor Adventures to create the Haunted River Tour, a first-of-its kind frightening and fun trip that those of sound mind and brave souls can dare to venture this Halloween season.
The rafting trips will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights through Oct. 30. Visitors will first take a trip through a haunted woods, their paths illuminated only by the small glowsticks attached to their life jackets. Those who make it through the woods will then be compelled to journey on a rubber raft as an experienced guide takes them to the spookiest spots on an otherwise normal river.
“We’ve got some chills and thrills lined up,” Morgan said. “I don’t think there’s ever been anything quite like this before.”
Following their hallowing journey, rafters can relax around a bonfire and hear spooky stories.
“The element of darkness when you are way out in nature makes everything extra spooky,” Morgan said. “It’s a great setting.”
Tickets for the trip are $10 per person, although group rates are available with a prior reservation.
The rafts will hold up to eight people plus a guide and require no advanced skill or knowledge of navigating rivers. Morgan said the tour is recommended for ages 9 and older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Absolutely no alcohol is permitted during the trip or on Morgan Canoe grounds.
