The man caused a two-vehicle accident on Needmore Road after leaving the gas station, continued east and caused a second two-vehicle collision at Needmore and Old Troy Pike. One person was taken to a hospital from that second accident.
The man then got out of the sedan and ran south on Old Troy Pike, through cornfields, until he was captured in the 4200 block, Malson said.
Malson said the hospital will have to determine whether the man had been using drugs before police and paramedics arrived at the gas station.
Police likely will pursue charges of felonious assault and failure to comply with the signal or order of a police officer, Malson said. Other charges are likely once all the officers and paramedics involved write up their incident reports.
Riverside police have detained at least one man in the 4200 block of Old Troy Pike after a foot chase.
Dayton police also responded to the incident, which was dispatched just before 5 p.m.
