DANSERV will load and haul from one item up to a 16-cubic-yard truckload, Riddle said. Most of the debris ends up at a disposal site. But many days, Riddle hands over items somebody sees on his truck and requests. He recycles and reuses items when possible, and will donate to thrift stores or needy individuals.
“Customers appreciate that,” Riddle said. “They’d rather see somebody else use it instead of it going to a landfill,” he said. Trying to salvage and sell items doesn’t appeal to him. “I’d rather just give it away,” he said.
His company offers a variety of services, mostly rubbish removal and property clean-outs, but also light demolition and yard debris disposal. People moved away from burning trash and debris, creating a market for people willing to pick up and haul the materials.
Riddle sorts his hauls, separating metals, glass and paper products for recycling, keeping his disposal costs down. DANSERV does not haul hazardous or infectious waste, he said.
When he started the company in 1980, he also offered garden tilling, tree removal and lawn mowing, he said. Some of those services may be offered at a customer’s request, he said.
Trash at work sites ranges from the most offensive, vermin-infested filth to new washing machines, Riddle said. He works with the slogan, “What your trash man won’t take, we will.”
He understands some of the people using his service may be down on their luck, laid off from a job, or in other desperate circumstances. He strives to be “warm, friendly, discreet, compassionate and non-judgmental,” Riddle said.
DANSERV is based in Beavercreek, but serves the entire Miami Valley. For more information, call (937) 426-4326.
