Another round of federal funding to help communities recover from the Memorial Day tornadoes may be on the way, according to U.S. Sen. Rob Portman who was in the region Monday.

“We’re working on the next stage of this which would be public assistance,” Portman said while touring the Trotwood area with Mayor Mary McDonald.”

Portman visited Trotwood and Beavercreek Monday, just over a month since 15 tornadoes hit the region.

Portman said cities like Trotwood have had to take on “a lot of expenses for infrastructure and overtime” since the tornadoes.

“It’s going to take a couple of years to get people back in place and get businesses back up and going,” Portman said. “It’s going to be a long haul.”
