Sinclair College ranks No. 4 as the top community college in Ohio

A recent study conducted by Schools.com, a source that connects students to top quality degree academic programs, ranked Sinclair College as the No. 4 top community college out of 23 of Ohio’s community colleges. The study is based on data from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics and College Scorecards.

The study looked at data points relating to factors including affordability, flexibility and student retention and success outcomes.

“Sinclair College has been in existence for 133 years and continues to remain the college of choice for students from across the Dayton region,” said Dr. Steve Johnson, Sinclair College president. “We are committed to providing students with the best in quality and value that a higher education institution can offer. A college education is one of the most important decisions a student makes for the rest of their lives. We have an obligation to help every student complete a credential so that they can get a meaningful job, change their lives for the better, and make a difference for their community.”

Sinclair was also recently recognized as the most affordable community college in Ohio and ranked No. 21 most affordable nationally out of nearly 1,000 public community colleges nation-wide. The ranking is based on the net tuition price from the U.S. Department of Education’s annual “College Affordability and Transparency List.”

Sinclair has worked tirelessly to increase student success rates among low-income, first-generation students and students of color. These are ongoing efforts, accomplished through dedicated college resources as well as generous support from philanthropic organizations including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

During the past 15 years, the success rates of Sinclair students have skyrocketed, with more than 5,300 students completing an astounding 8,100 degrees and certificates in the 2018-19 academic year. Since 2005, the college has experienced more than a 600% increase in the number of degrees and certificates awarded to African-American male students and over a 1,900% increase for minority students. The number of degrees and certificates earned by all students has also increased by more than 335% since 2005.

Students have earned more than 40,000 degrees and certificates from Sinclair College, during the past decade. These credentials will result in increased earnings and opportunities for students and their families and help expand the workforce of the Dayton region. Nearly 90% of Sinclair graduates stay in this community.

Sinclair is recognized as a local and national leader in delivering high-quality and affordable higher education. One of the oldest and best-known community colleges in the nation, Sinclair was founded in 1887 by David A. Sinclair and is a board member of the prestigious League for Innovation in the Community College.

Sinclair College offers nearly 260 accredited degrees and certificates.
