An international drum corps competition hosted by the Centerville Band Boosters will return to Centerville August 1.

Soaring Sounds, the longest-running independent drum corps competition in the county, will see nine drum corps compete at Centerville High School.

The event is presented with the permission of Drum Corps International which hosts over 100 live drum corps events in the United States performed by nearly 3,500 students.

Drum corps are competitive band performances composed of a brass section, percussion section and color guard.

The performances trace their roots to the end of World War I when veterans formed corps to participate in patriotic parades.

Spectators attending Centerville's August 1 show at 7 p.m. at Centerville High School are encouraged to check out pre-show festivities at 4 p.m.

Pre-show events include a food truck rally featuring 8 local vendors and a souvenir park. Tickets are available now by visiting www.soaringsounds.org.
