Speeding car, not deer, takes out pole on Gettysburg Avenue in Dayton

A reported deer strike in the area of North Gettysburg Avenue and Kings Highway in reality was a high-speed crash involving a car that destroyed a utility pole and left its upper half suspended in air, attached to power lines.

The accident was reported just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Dayton police arrived to find the damaged pole, several streetlights and a traffic light out because of the crash, and an abandoned Monte Carlo.

They are having the car towed. A Dayton Power & Light crew was dispatched to replace the pole and check the lines for any further damage.

Southbound Gettysburg was closed for a time. The northbound lanes remained open.
