Robbers enter Springfield Speedway with long rifle, trash can

Springfield police are looking for two people who robbed a Speedway station on North Bechtle Avenue with a long rifle.

Officers responded to the convenience store at 2040 North Bechtle Avenue just after 3 a.m. after a clerk reported a robbery.

Police said two men, one armed with a long rifle and the other carrying a trash can, entered the store and demanded money and cigarettes.

The robbers dumped all the cigarettes into the trash can and also emptied out the register, police said.

The clerk reportedly locked himself inside a room and called 911 while the robbery occurred.
