Man detained in investigation of stabbing where hatchet reportedly used

UPDATE @ 7:45 p.m. (Dec. 7): A 31-year-old man is in jail in the investigation of a reported attack on a man by someone who reportedly used a hatchet.

Police on Thursday were dispatched to the 2400 block of East Third Street, near Horton Street, about 7:30 a.m. on a report of a stabbing.

Officers said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Police on Thursday afternoon arrested Cody Jack Williams in the 1000 block of Colwick Drive in Dayton. According to a Dayton police incident report, Williams was picked up in connection to the incident on East Third Street.

He is being detained in the Montgomery County Jail pending the filing of a burglary charge, according to online jail records.

Other pending charges, including felonious assault and theft and possession of a drug abuse instrument, have been cleared by detectives, according to online jail records.

INITIAL REPORT (Dec. 6)

A man was reportedly attacked with a hatchet before a woman ran to a local restaurant to get the victim help, according to a 911 caller.

“I guess somebody used a hatchet on him,” the caller, who said she worked at Abner’s Restaurant, said. “He’s got blood all over him trying to walk down the street.”

Police responded around 7:30 a.m. to the area of East Third and Horton streets on a report of a stabbing.

Officers said the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.

According to dispatch records, the woman who came to the restaurant for help knows who is responsible for the attack.

Police have not said whether any arrests have been made.

A K-9 unit responded to the area to search for the suspect.
