The conference this month will give local Park Service officials a chance to show off the park that showcases the legacy of aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright and poet Paul Laurence Dunbar.
The visiting delegation of nearly 30 Park Service administrators is to include Obama’s nominee for director, Jonathan Jarvis, who is currently the regional director of the agency’s Pacific West region; Dan Wenk, the Park Service’s interim director, and Ernest Quintana, Midwest regional director.
They are to visit the Dayton park’s various sections, including the Williams Street headquarters and nearby Wright brothers’ bicycle shop; Paul Laurence Dunbar State Memorial, Huffman Prairie Flying Field and Wright Brothers Aviation Center at Carillon Historical Park.
The national leadership conference typically meets in the Washington, D.C., area but occasionally gathers at other National Park sites around the country. Quintana suggested the Dayton park as a meeting site and the conference accepted, said Ann Honious, chief of education and resources management at the Dayton park.
