UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m.

A Honda CRV was on top of two motorcycles when troopers responded to the intersection of Fairgrounds and Hawkins roads, Sgt. Richard Milstead of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Xenia Post said.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. when the Honda CRV, which was traveling north on Fairgrounds Road and tried to turn left onto Hawkins Road into the path of a white Chrysler headed south on Fairgrounds Road. The CRV then drove over the top of two motorcycles stopped at the intersection, he said. “They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Milstead said. “Those bikes were just simply parked at an intersection where another crash had occurred.”

Two motorcycle riders were taken to hospitals, one to Miami Valley Hospital and another to Greene Memorial Hospital. Their injuries are serious but not life-threatening, he said. Two people in the Chrysler were taken to Greene Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not serious.

“Blessing of the Bikes started this morning about 10 o’clock and ran til 4 p.m. From what we were told, all of those riders were exiting that venue,” Milstead said of the event at Kil-Kare Raceway.

The CRV driver is facing a failure to yield citation, Milstead said.

“You’ve just got to be aware of everyone around you, including bikes. They are difficult to see. You have to give that extra second of your time before proceeding into an intersection,” he said.
