Transformer explosion knocks out power for 2,500

A transformer explosion happened shortly before 4 a.m. this morning in Beavercreek. It happened in the area of North Fairfield Road and Interstate 35.

There are no injuries to report from the explosion, which authorities said the may have been triggered by a lightning strike or another weather-related issue.

It left more than 2,500 DP&L customers in Greene County without power but as of 5 a.m., power has been restored to most customers.
