Troy woman pleads guilty to theft from elderly man

A Troy woman pleaded guilty Monday, April 9, to felony theft of money from an elderly person.

Summer Cook, 34, made the plea in Miami County Common Pleas Court. She was accused of stealing from an elderly man and using the money for personal use between April 2016 and June 2017, county prosecutors said. A trial was scheduled to begin later this month.

A restitution total of $10,000 was agreed to by prosecutors and the defense, Steve Layman, public defender, told Judge Christopher Gee. Cook could face up to three years in prison at sentencing scheduled for June 4.

Cook remains free on her own recognizance.
