Two Bellbrook Girl Scouts earn group’s highest achievement

Raychel Santo, Kylie Bushroe hosted a self-esteem workshop for 30 girls last June.

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook High School senior Kylie Bushroe, 17, of Sugarcreek Twp., and Raychel Santo, 17, of Bellbrook, a senior at The Miami Valley School in Washington Twp., received a dual honor April 12 at the Bellbrook City Council meeting.

Both teens are members of Bellbrook Girl Scout Troop 31646, under the leadership of Cheryl Phelan.

They received a certificate of commendation from the city for achieving the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award. It honors outstanding accomplishments in leadership, community service, career planning and personal development. They had to earn other scouting awards along the way, including the Silver Award, before completion of a final service project, said Sherri Bushroe, Kylie’s mom. Kylie’s dad, Dave, is the troop’s assistant leader.

Santo is the daughter of Fred Santo and Karen Ollier.

Bushroe has been a scout for 12 years, Santo for seven.

The two presented a day-long self-esteem workshop called “Be Youtiful” last June for more than 30 girls in grades sixth through eighth in the Bellbrook area. They received help from a middle school guidance counselor, but had to put in at least 65 hours of their own on the project, which had to show leadership and reach into the community.
