They received a certificate of commendation from the city for achieving the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award. It honors outstanding accomplishments in leadership, community service, career planning and personal development. They had to earn other scouting awards along the way, including the Silver Award, before completion of a final service project, said Sherri Bushroe, Kylie’s mom. Kylie’s dad, Dave, is the troop’s assistant leader.
Santo is the daughter of Fred Santo and Karen Ollier.
Bushroe has been a scout for 12 years, Santo for seven.
The two presented a day-long self-esteem workshop called “Be Youtiful” last June for more than 30 girls in grades sixth through eighth in the Bellbrook area. They received help from a middle school guidance counselor, but had to put in at least 65 hours of their own on the project, which had to show leadership and reach into the community.
