Two Miami Valley KinderCares rated excellent

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Two local KinderCare Learning Centers were recently recognized by the state for their “excellent child care programs.”

The KinderCare at 951 E. Rahn Road in Kettering and another at 7305 Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights have both received a One-Star Step Up to Quality Award from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services’ Bureau of Child Care and Development.

The agency “is responsible for licensing and promoting high standards among Ohio’s child care programs,” according a press release issued by Debbie Burneka, center director for the Kettering location.

The state recognition is a voluntary rating system for early care and education programs, according to Burneka. Those who reach One-Star status, have some of the following characteristics, according to Burneka:

• Teachers who have received five hours of child development training per year, above licensing requirements.

• Program that provides at least one employee benefit to staff members.

• Teachers are trained to prepare children for kindergarten

Besides the state recognition, the Huber Heights location is also accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, according to Beth Woodward, a spokesperson for the Knowledge Learning Corporation. The director of the Huber Heights’ center is Veronica Topa.
