Schaefer, who will be the first female CEO to be featured on the show, participated in various front-line jobs in several of the company’s Great Wolf Lodge resorts, including the one at 2501 Great Wolf Drive in Mason.
Schaefer, who has been with Great Wolf Resorts for 14 years, ends up working as a restaurant server and as an aquatics supervisor.
“Participating in ‘Undercover Boss’ was definitely a career highlight for me,” Schaefer said in a statement. “Being able to see first-hand what our employees go through on a daily basis was eye-opening. Not only did I learn a lot about our company from this experience, but I also met some incredible people along the way.”
Great Wolf was approached by the show to participate in this season, according to Steve Shattuck, the company’s director of communications.
“We knew this was really a once in the lifetime chance to see the company in a way that few other company leaders get to, through the eyes of employees that represent our brand to our guests every single day, ” he said.
Shattuck said he could not discuss the details or the duration of Schaefer’s stint at the Mason resort.
A description of the show on its website says Schaefer “struggles to keep pace working in an aquatic center that can hold nearly 3,000 guests at anytime.”
Great Wolf officials have seen nothing of the episode other than a 30-second promo airing on CBS and its website, Shattuck said.
“We will be watching it with the rest of America on Sunday evening for the very first time,” he said.
Now in its second season, “Undercover Boss” follows high-level chief executives as they slip anonymously into the rank and file of their companies. Each week a different executive leaves the comfort of their corner office for an undercover mission to examine the inner workings of their company.
While working alongside employees, they will see the effects their decisions have on others, where the problems lie within their organization and get an up-close look at both the good and the bad while discovering the unsung heroes who make their company run.
Other companies whose executives will be featured in this season include DIRECTV, the Chicago Cubs, Chiquita Brands International, Frontier Airlines, Lucky Strike Lanes and NASCAR.
