Vandalia rec center offers its own ‘Biggest Loser’ plan

VANDALIA — Want to shed some pounds in the new year?

The Vandalia Recreation Center is introducing a new program, Lose2Win in 2010, based on the popular TV show, “The Biggest Loser.”

Brandi Williams, fitness supervisor at the rec center, said she’s a big fan of the show, which has moved her to tears on occasion.

“It’s so amazing how they change their lives,” she said.

“I’m in this field to do that. I wanted the same connections with people.”

The eight-week program at the 1111 Stonequarry Road rec center runs from Jan. 11 through March 6. Just like the show, it’s a competition based on total percentage of weight loss and, yes, there will be a Lose2Win winner.

Teams of four will train with a certified fitness professional twice a week at the rec center.

The program also offers before- and after-pictures, a T-shirt, fitness testing, an individualized exercise “prescription,” a weekly weigh-in, group workout challenges, a weekly wellness newsletter, even a graduation ceremony.

The grand prize winner will receive a mini-makeover and there will be prizes for second and third place contestants.

The deadline to sign up for the program is Wednesday, Dec. 30.

By last week, 15 people already had signed up.

Registration fliers are available in the lobby of the rec center.

The cost of this program is $200 per person for Vandalia residents and Vandalia rec members.

Nonresidents and nonmembers can participate for $250 per person.
