Vandalia will open the rec center pool next week

The pool at the Vandalia Recreation Center will open on June 8 with limitations.

The Recreation Center is opening in “baby steps,” said Vandalia spokesman Rich Hopkins. The fitness center and indoor track are currently open and the pool will be open for water fitness classes and lap swimming on June 8.

“We are opening the pool for those activities first because it is easy to make sure social distancing is done,” Hopkins said.

Complete coronavirus coverage

Hopkins said the city plans to open the pool for recreational swimming later this summer.

“We want to do this, we know our residents want us to do this, but we want to do it safely,” Hopkins said.

The city’s Cassel Hills Swimming Pool at 1061 Taylorsview Drive will remain closed because of the coronavirus.

Also on June 8, the recreation center will open up limited child care. To get more information about child care at the Vandalia Recreation Center, call (937) 415-2340.
