Vehicle hits shopping cart, throws infant from seat

Police in Butler Township say an infant was thrown from a shopping cart when it was hit by a vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart.

Crews were dispatched to the Walmart at 3465 York Commons Boulevard in Butler Township around 10 p.m. Sunday on a reported pedestrian strike in the parking lot.

Police say an infant under the age of one was in a shopping cart and being pushed by her mother when a car hit the cart and threw the infant from the cart.

Officers say the infant was not believed to be injured, but was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital as a precaution.

Police say they believe the child ‘will be ok’, but are still in the process of investigating and talking with the family and hospital.

The mother and driver of the vehicle were not injured.

Police say the driver will be cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
