’Water blockage issue’ causes gas outage in Dayton

A natural gas outage on Brooklyn Avenue overnight has Vectren restoring service to 66 customers, who lost service during what the gas provider called a “water blockage issue.”

The outage impacted customers in the 100-400 block of Brooklyn, according to Vectren.

Crews became aware of the problem around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and by 3 p.m. Friday gas service had been restored to half of the customers, said Natalie Hedde, spokeswoman for Vectren. The customers who have not been restored were not at home when Vectren came to restore service.

The gas provider said they believe the issue could have happened because of the rain the area received in the last 24-48 hours.  Ongoing projects in the area could have made it easier for water to get into the lines, Hedde said.

The gas lines were shut down, purged and then service was restored.

The gas provider hopes to have the remaining customers back online by tonight.
