Woman struck by train committed suicide, police say

TROY, Miami County— A CSX train video surveillance camera footage is what lead police to be believe that suicide was the motive behind a Troy woman being struck and killed by a train, according to Capt. Joe Long.

CSX reported the incident at 5:35 a.m. June 18.

The woman was identified as Lori Maurer, 44, of Crescent Drive in Troy. She had just moved from New Carlisle when the incident happened, according to Long.

Police at the scene said the freight train was traveling northbound across the 200 block of East Canal Street, which is near Hauenstein Court, when it struck the woman. She was lying on the tracks.

Maurer did not leave behind a note or some sort of explanation for her actions, Long said.

Police have not yet determined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the suicide.
