Dozens attend vigil for teen killed in shooting at Springfield gas station

Nearly 70 people attended a vigil Monday evening for 15-year-old William Allen “B.J.” Beverly Jr., shot to death at a gas station in Springfield early Sunday.

"It means a lot to me, for the support," said Andrea Beverly, who described her nephew as the typical teenager who liked to joke around, be silly, play basketball and dream about life as an adult.

"We're, at the moment, shocked.... We just want justice," she said. "I hear the self-defense thing, whatever, we want justice. That will never be right in our eyes."

Police found “B.J.” near the cashier’s counter in the business, in the 1300 block of East Main Street, about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, according to a police incident report. He died at the scene.
