She said she wants to spend more time with her family.
“I still love the variety and challenge of the job, but it is time to shift gears and change priorities. It’s time to put more focus on my family,” Callison said in a written statement.
A Republican, she was re-elected in November to a four-year term.
John “Bud” O’Brien, county Republican chairman, said procedures for filling the office will be reviewed and a meeting scheduled to make an appointment.
Callison is the second county official to retire this year. Auditor Chris Peeples, who’d held the office since 1990, stepped aside in April
Callison said she is proud that her office has never received a finding or citation for violating any accounting rule or policy in annual audits conducted by state auditors.
“It really takes a team effort to maintain that kind of accuracy,” said Callison, “And, it would not have been possible without the dedication and cooperation of my wonderful staff.”
Callison and her husband, Rick, have two adult sons.
