Miami Twp. trustees have started the process for placing police and fire levies on the ballot this fall.

Trustees Tuesday night approved measures asking the Montgomery County auditor to certify tax valuation for renewal and replacement levies for police and fire services.

Separate resolutions are necessary for each type of levy for each safety service, according to Miami Twp. Finance Director Clay McCord.

The resolutions involve a 5.25-mill police levy and a 3.5-mill fire levy, both of which are set to expire at the end of 2018, according to McCord. Both levies were approved by voters in the spring of 2013, according to the county board of elections.

The township has its own police department and shares fire services with the city of Miamisburg through the Miami Valley Fire District.
