A groundbreaking is set for today on the $4 million expansion of the West Carrollton branch of the Dayton Metro Library.

The event is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the library, which will be 50 percent larger when the site at the West Carrollton Civic Center at 300 Central Ave. reopens in the fall of next year, officials said.

The manager of the project, which will expand the library from 10,000 to 15,000 square feet, is Shook Construction. Staffco Construction submitted the lowest bid at $3.88 million, officials said.

It will be closed during the work.

When the library reopens it will also include a quiet reading room, a group study rooms, a fireplace and dedicated spaces for children and teens, as well as more parking, according to the library system.

West Carrollton is the latest of the metro library’s renovation projects in Montgomery County funded by a voter-approved $187 million bond issue in 2012.
