Michelle Orrender, 35, had more than a dozen dogs confiscated from her home and has been indicted on 17 charges, including seven counts of dogfighting and four counts of cruelty to animals. She also faces five counts of possession of criminal tools and one count of practicing veterinary medicine without a license.
"We did find two dogs that had recently been fought," Coberly said. "We could tell based on their injuries that were consistent with dog fighting."
A friend who identified himself as a friend of Orrender's disputed the allegations.
"She was raising show dogs," he said. "If you've ever been to a show, you'll see that all the ears have been cropped. The charges as a whole, to be honest, they are all untrue. They are a pack of lies."
Orrender is not in jail, but is schedule for an initial court appearance next week.
