SCLC Leaders Visit Dayton To Promote Membership

Leaders of a prominent civil rights organization visited Dayton Monday to promote membership and a new focus.

The national president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference spoke about a new world order – building centers worldwide to teach the principals of the group's founder, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

New President Charles Steele wants to implement what he calls conflict resolution centers in every corner of society. He said if the centers had been in place before Friday night's NBA fight in Michigan, there would not have been a fight.

Organizers hope to increase their membership across the nation and world over the next year with membership drivers beginning in January on King's birthday.
