Then & Now: Dayton Metro Library through the years

The Dayton Metro Library’s main branch in downtown Dayton is undergoing a $63.6 million renovation.

That continues a history that began in 1888 with the opening of the first Dayton and Montgomery County Library, which is the subject of this week’s update to our Then & Now photo gallery of scenes from Dayton’s history.

In the 1892 image, a large crowd gathered at the library to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' first encounter with the New World.

Construction continues on the latest home of the longtime Dayton institution.
