Here’s a look at the finances of two Butler County Statehouse races featuring candidates who were not opposed in Tuesday’s primary.

52nd Ohio House District

Out of the more than 240 campaigns seeking one of the 99 Statehouse seats, Butler County’s 52nd Ohio House District race will likely be expensive based on pre-primary campaign finance reports filed with the Ohio Secretary of State.

Ohio Rep. George Lang, R-West Chester Twp., received more than $167,000 in donations — four of his 148 donors gave $10,000 each — between Jan. 1 and April 18.

That’s the most among all 243 Statehouse campaigns that filed a finance report last month.

But former Butler County Board of Elections board member Kathy Wyenandt, the Democrat challenging Lang in November, isn’t too far behind. She has raised nearly $76,000 since Jan. 1 and more than $81,000 since she announced her candidacy last year. That ranks as the 13th most among those campaigns.

Lang and Wynenandt ran unopposed in their respective partisan primary races.

The 52nd Ohio House District includes West Chester Twp., Liberty Twp., Fairfield Twp. and part of Sharonville in Butler County.

53rd Ohio House District

Ohio Rep. Candice Keller, R-Middletown, is being challenged by Democratic Party candidate Rebecca Howard, of Reily Twp.. Both ran in uncontested partisan primary races and will face off in the Nov. 6 general election.

This will be Keller’s second Statehouse election and Howard’s first time competing in an election.

Howard has out-raised Keller thus far in this election cycle, according to campaign finance reports filed last month. She raised more than $10,000 while Keller raised $900.

The 53rd Ohio House District covers the northernmost portions of Butler County, including Monroe, Trenton, Oxford, most of Middletown and the surrounding townships.
