Upscale 12-screen cinema fills Austin Landing entertainment void

A void in entertainment options at Austin Landing has been filled with the opening of the Cinépolis Dayton, a 12-screen upscale cinema seen as a vital element to the sprawling complex.

The $12 million theater that is Dallas-based Cinépolis USA’s first Midwest site will, officials say, offer customers an experience not available in this area and extend the nightlife hours at the Miami Twp. development.

“We are very excited to be adding this important entertainment component to our Austin Landing lineup,” said Larry Dillin, president of VisCap Development, which manages the complex.

“Cinepolis is a key element of our lifestyle mix,” he said of the cinema on Penny Lane, which runs parallel to Interstate 75. “It continues to broaden our market appeal.”

Many of the restaurants and bars at Austin Landing close at or before midnight. While schedules are still being established, show times for this weekend begin as late as 11:30 p.m., according to the theater’s website.

The 52,750 square foot cinema, which includes an outdoor patio, opened last weekend and plans a grand opening Oct. 29, said Cinépolis USA spokeswoman Sonia Sanchez.

Officials said it has theaters ranging from 68 to 180 seats, with a capacity for 1,560 seats. The luxury seating, the cinema’s menu of gourmet snacks and its motion picture technology combine for an “amazing experience from the time you walk in the door,” Sanchez said.

Tickets range in price from $8.25 for children to $9.25 for adults on weekdays and $11.25 for children to $13.25 for adults on weekends, officials said.

Cinépolis USA is a 6-year-old company offering luxury, premium and traditional theaters among its 17 locations in Southern California, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Ohio, according to its website.

The Austin Landing cinema joins four South Florida cinemas as middle-tier Cinépolis sites. While still awaiting approval of a liquor permit – which is expected before the grand opening - the cinema will have a full bar, serving beer, wine and signature cocktails, Sanchez said.

Movie goers will experience leather, full-reclining seats with trays in front of them “where you can enjoy your meal as well as have a nice cocktail inside the theater while you’re watching the movie” being shown on “projection screens (that) are top of the line,” Sanchez said.

The grand opening later this month will coincide with Austin Landing’s Trick or Treat. The cinema plans to have several vendors on hand, a disc jockey, free popcorn and other giveaways, Sanchez said.

Until the grand opening, she said movie goers should call the theater at 937-865-9718 for specific show times.
