World of Beer moves closer to opening at The Greene

The first-in-the-Dayton-area “World of Beer” tavern may open before the end of the year in a new retail building still under construction at The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek.

Steve Willshaw, general manager of The Greene, estimated that initial construction of the 10,000-plus-square-foot building that is going up at The Greene’s front entrance on Indian Ripple Road will be complete in early summer, and World of Beer will begin its buildout shortly thereafter. Willshaw estimated the beer bar and restaurant could open before the end of the year.

A spokeswoman for Tampa-based World of Beer said this morning, April 12, that the Beavercreek tavern is expected to open this fall or winter. Seating capacity hasn’t yet been determined in the 4,300-square-foot space that will be occupied by World of Beer. The tavern will employ about 70, the spokeswoman said.

The Beavercreek pub will be corporate-owned, unlike the other two Ohio World of Beer locations in Columbus, which are both franchise-operated. Darren Greene, a World of Beer co-franchisee who oversees the company’s location at Easton Town Center in Columbus, said he and his franchisee partner looked in the Dayton-Cincinnati region prior to the company signing the lease at The Greene.

In addition to the 4,300-square-foot space leased to World of Beer, plans submitted to the city of Beavercreek show the new retail building will have two smaller retail tenant spaces of 3,035 square feet and 2,675 square feet, along with a 585-square-foot patio.

Willshaw said this morning that the retail, office and residential center center is still in negotiations with prospective tenants for the two remaining spaces in the new building.

World of Beer offers 50 to 60 craft beers on tap and more than 500 beers from around the world in bottle. Founded in 2007, the chain operates 75 taverns in 21 states, including one on North High Street near Ohio State University in addition to the Easton Town Center location.
