How to take a whack out of this addictive new Dayton pie

“It is addictive and a little piece goes a long way because it is really rich,” shop owner said.

It is not every day that a lumberjack comes along that you’d actually want to take a whack at.

The crave-worthy treat is the latest addition to Ghostlight Coffee's Thanksgiving dessert menu.

The 10-inch pie can be pre-ordered for the holiday or requested by special order now, said Shane Anderson, owner of the coffee shop located at 1201 Wayne Ave. in Dayton's South Park neighborhood.

The cost of the pie is $18.

The coffee shop’s annual Lumberjack festival was held in September.

It is not much to look at once you slice it, but the Lumberjack Pie tastes so good you might find yourself wanting to eat the whole dang thing in one sitting.

Anderson said the Lumberjack Pie is a creation of  Mandy Smith, a seven-year employee and its baker for about four years.

“We wanted a new custom pie for the (annual) pie sale,” he said. “It is addictive and a little piece goes a long way because it is really rich.”

Smith drew inspiration from pie recipes — derby pie; chess pie and the crack pie to name a few.

The Lumberjack Pie also pays homage to Ghostlight’s popular Lumberjack Latte with its maple, cinnamon and smoked sea salt.

The pie has a list of ingredients that includes butter, heavy cream, salt and maple and brown sugars. It has a crunchy cinnamon cookie crust.

Ghostlight’s pie menu also includes the Ghostlight Thanksgiving Pie, the Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie, the pumpkin and maple pie (vegan), Mama Smiths Fantastic Apple Pie (vegan) and cranberry apple pie (dairy and gluten free).

The coffee shop also has dinner rolls, and an autumn blend of  whole bean coffee; snickerdoodles and spiced apple ciderdoodles.

Pre-order items range from $9 to $25.
