Coldwater Cafe in Tipp City serving strawberry doughnuts

Since the announcement of the cancellation of the Troy Strawberry Festival (originally set to take place this weekend), many have mourned the loss of one of their favorite festival treats — the strawberry doughnuts. For years, the sales of these strawberry doughnuts have helped provide funding for the Troy High School Band and Troy Music Boosters.

Now, without this important (and yummy) fundraiser, locals are finding other ways to support the band and give the people what they want.

On Saturday, June 6, Coldwater Cafe in Tipp City will be serving fresh strawberry doughnuts by the dozen. Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Coldwater Cafe’s executive chef, Katy Fischer, along with help from Jim’s Donuts in Vandalia and volunteers, will be serving fresh strawberry doughnuts and plenty of other strawberry-infused treats, like strawberry muffins, strawberry pies, strawberry bread and other items on their lunch menu that feature the fruit. A dozen strawberry doughnuts will cost $12 and a portion of the profits from the strawberry doughnuts will be given to the Troy High School Band and Music Boosters.

“Honestly, the idea of selling of strawberry donuts simply came from our Executive Chef, Katy Fischer,” said Jenny Swigart, Coldwater Cafe’s office manager. “She thought it would be a fun thing to do to make people happy since there would be no strawberry donuts this year. I was aware that it is a big fundraiser for the Troy High School Band and Troy Music Boosters, so we thought it would be nice to donate some of the profit to them.”

Pre-ordering is no longer available to secure your dozen, as the response to the fundraiser has been overwhelming for its organizers at the restaurant. To ensure that you receive your strawberry infused treats, head to Bodega Wine and Specialty Foods Market (located right next door to Coldwater Cafe) in downtown Tipp City early in the day.

“It’s always our goal to make sure the quality of food and service that has Coldwater’s name on it meets every high standard we set for ourselves,” said Swigart.
