Centerville High School’s Jonathan Powell, a member of the 2024 recruiting class, announced his commitment to the Xavier Musketeers on Wednesday. He took an official visit to Xavier earlier in the week.

Powell, a 6-foot-6 guard, narrowed his choices to Clemson, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Xavier in November. He’s the first 2024 recruit to commit to Xavier.

“My decision to choose Xavier over any school came down to who me and my family feels can develop me into being a next-level talent,” Powell told Joe Tipton, of On3.com. “I also like the program and coaching staff a lot and I feel at home, especially with the relationship my uncle had with coach (Sean) Miller. I feel coach Miller has my best interest in me as a student-athlete.”

Powell ranks 114th in the 2024 class, according to Rivals.com. He’s No. 95 in the 247Sports.com composite rankings and No. 2 in Ohio.

Powell led Centerville with 16.7 points per game last season as a junior, helping lead the team to a 25-4 record and a spot in the Division I state semifinals.

Powell played his first two seasons at Chaminade Julienne. He averaged 16.8 points as a sophomore and 13.1 as a freshman when he helped the Eagles reach the D-II state tournament.
