Wright State coaches do the happy dance

Expectations are high that WSU teams will live up to their possibilities.

FAIRBORN — Wright State basketball coaches Brad Brownell and Bridgett Williams listened to Mark Adams list the possibilities and even did a little dance with him in hopes of reaching the Big Dance, the NCAA tournament.

Monday, Nov. 9, at the WSU basketball luncheon, the coaches focused on the possibilities for their teams as Adams — a former coach who now broadcasts for ESPN and does motivational speeches — spoke about basketball and life.

Brownell and Williams played perfectly into Adams’ theme.

While the women’s team has posted only one winning record in Williams’ eight previous seasons, the Raiders have been at .500 or better in each of the last five years, and Williams said, “I want our kids to match the toughness of our schedule.”

Brownell, noting his team will open in a four-team tournament at Washington on Friday along with Portland State and Belmont, said, “We have older guys, nine juniors and seniors, so expectations are high.”

The women’s team opens its season Saturday at IPFW and plays its first home game the following Thursday, against Eastern Kentucky. The first home game for the men’s team is Nov. 24 against Central Michigan.
