Website keeps Dayton Speedway history alive

It seems like we’re in such a hurry to get places these days, sometimes it’s good to slow down and remember where we’ve been.

And thanks to the website DaytonSpeedwayLives.com Miami Valley racing fans are able to recapture memories of the historic speedway.

The track that hosted drivers like A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones and Bobby Unser, featured the Dayton 500 and offers incredible stories like Chick Hale’s fireball still has much to offer.

And that’s where DaytonSpeedwayLives.com comes in. The website turned three on May 25 and celebrated by announcing the Dayton Speedway Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011.

The 10-person class includes: Dick Dunlevy Sr., Don Flory, Jack Isaac, Frank Jones, Iggy Katona, Benny Parsons, Johnny Shackleford, Nelson Stacy, Don Wilbur and Omar Williams.

Induction ceremonies take place Nov. 6 and more details will be announced in upcoming weeks.

The speedway opened in June of 1934 and closed in 1982. It has since disappeared from the landscape — literally, its location on Soldiers Home Road is now a landfill — but its memories will last forever.
