Summer music shifts into gear

Right after work, get over to Yellow Cab for their food truck rally and Night Market, with live music! This week's music is from the awesome local band The Repeating Arms for their first show of the summer. Entry is free. 5-10 p.m. All ages.

Hardcore Hip Hop national phenomemon Twiztid brings their krazy krew from Detroit, to do a throw it down here at Oddbody's Music Room. Jarren Benton, Blaze- Ya Dead Homie, Rats, Menace 2 Sobriety, KNOXX, Newman Tha Nutzo and Mike Vile are also performing during this wild show. Pink Floyd fans out there will be psyched to see Signs of Life: The Essence of Pink Floyd tribute show at Fraze Pavillon. Six multi-talented musicians, three dynamic female vocalists and a five-person production team are dedicated to reproducing the vast and spacious Pink Floyd "essence" – arguably one of the most musically accurate and breathtaking Pink Floyd tribute bands anywhere. This show is extra special, as it benefits Project READ, the Dayton area's literacy coalition. 8:30 p.m. show time. $15 advance. $20 day of show.

Downtown, there are lots of local live music acts to enjoy. If you like the intimacy of singer songwriter shows, be sure to check out Scott Lee at Dublin Pub. He's got a great, full voice, with lots of passion that he expresses through a modern folk style. 8 p.m. - 12 a.m. Or wheel on over to Patterson Pub to hear Tony Herdman and Brooks Daughtery, starting at 9 p.m.

Blind Bob's presents a host of rock bands for your listening pleasure, including M. Ross Perkins, Alone at Three Am (Cincinnati), Mad Anthony (Cincinnati), and Quiet Hollers (Louisville). Styles range from neo-psychedelic to post-punk to straight indie rock. 9 p.m.

One of the summer's local music festivals, the 7th Annual Wham Bam Thank U Jam, makes a few road trips before their big event in August. This weekend they present Gild The Lily, Lemon Sky, and Far From Eden in a showcase of musical acts performing at this year's main event.  Music and festivities begin at 9 p.m. at Oregon Express, and music at 10 p.m. $5 at the door. 21+

Dance fans, make sure you get to Therapy Cafe tonight! Musicians For Unity is gearing up the summer and starting to raise money for our students of GLSEN Greater Dayton. This is the first of a few benefits they will be hosting before GemFest 2 in October. DJ  Ashley Mcgrath from NKY will also be a guest DJ for the evening. 8 p.m. - 2:30 a.m. 18+

West of town, check out War Radio at Taffys of Eaton. War Radio was first conceived as a creative side project for Joel and LaToshia Everson. It has now taken shape as a new blend of folk and rock. The sound, while reminiscent of many familiar influences, is something quite new. This band displays elements of many musical styles but ultimately comes back to the heart and passion of searching for something more. 8 p.m. 

One of the most anticipated events is the 6th annual Grime Prom at Blind Bob's. Live music is planned from Involuntarys, Swimming with Sharks, Duderus, Grand Mammoth  and Brat Curse. Starts at 8 p.m. and rages to close. $5 admission. 21+

Sunday, June 19th

Blame It On The Funk is a stage play presenting some of Dayton's most talented new school musicians, singers and dancers who will pay tribute to old school Dayton Funk through the performance of songs by the Ohio Players, Heatwave, Slave, Faze-O and Zapp. Seating at the Masonic Temple begins at 6:00 pm, Show starts at 7:00 pm and runs till 9:30pm Cost: $10 for general seating (Section C), VIP Seats $20 and $40.

Sunday Funday gets serious with some Blues and BBQ with A Sides B Sides and Doug Hart Band at Riff Raff Tavern. This is a great way to enjoy the sunshine, good music, and yummy food! 2 p.m.

Local rockers Evil Eye Gypsy will be playing some music and eating some pizza at The Little York Tavern in Dayton from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Come on out and enjoy the good times with them!

Tuesday, June 21st

The Steve Miller Band with Noah Smith are performing at Rose Music Center this evening. You remember him from rock classics such as "The Joker," "Livin' in the USA," "Take the Money and Run," among many more. Reserved Pavilion Seating starts at $62.

Wednesday June 22nd

Country music icon Willie Nelson will team up with award-winning group The Mavericks for a one night only show at Rose Music Center. Needless to do an introduction to who this is, he's a legend!  I was surprised to learn that in the last five years alone he has delivered nine new album releases (of which one resulted in a Grammy Award win), released a Top 10 New York Times' bestsellers book, again headlined Farm Aid, an event he co-founded in 1985, received his 5th degree black belt in Gong Kwon Yu Sul, and graced the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. WOW! There is no stopping him! Tickets start at $52.

Last, but not least, I'd recommend you getting out and seeing Tim Easton at Yellow Cab this evening. If you caught his show the last time, you know how good this will be - if you have never seen Tim, you are in for a treat! He is currently touring in support of his new album "American Fork" but draws from an extensive catalog so each show is unique. This will be an early show, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and music starting at 8 p.m. Local favorite Joe Anderl will open the show with a short set. You won't want to miss this show!   Tickets are $10 and are available in advance online or at the door the day of the show. Please be aware that this is an all ages and alcohol free show.
