TED comes to the Miami Valley

I’m sure many of our readers are fans of TED, the amazing web site that offers a wide variety of short lectures on every conceivable subject. One of my personal favorites is the explanation and close-up look at the War Horse puppets presented by the team that originally created them.

Other speakers, who are each given 18 minutes to share their thoughts, have included Roger Ebert, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Brian Greene, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

TEDx is a global program of independently-organized events licensed by TED and it’s coming to town in an inaugural all-day event slated for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Victoria Theater. Dayton co-chair Sean Creighton says representatives from a cross-section of the community have spent a year organizing the project. Over the course of a day, more than 30 speakers and performers will appear on stage to address the theme: “Infuse and Inspire.”

To attend, you’re asked to fill out a brief application. TEDxDayton will have a student ticket, basic ticket and a sponsor ticket with proceeds helping to cover the the costs of the event.

We’ll keep you updated about prices, speakers and more. In the meantime, visit the TEDxDayton website or follow TEDxDayton on Facebook or Twitter for updates and more information. You’ll also want to check out the TED website: www.ted.com
