Logan’s debut album, “Impossible,” released in September of 2017, shot to the top 10 on the iTunes, Billboard and Amazon charts. She was also a guest artist on Dave Koz and Friends Summer Horns II, from A to Z, which became a top-selling contemporary jazz album.
Logan has performed at more than 250 shows since 2016. In addition to her own shows, she performs in Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox concerts and tours with Dave Koz and his all-star lineup.
The daughter of two public school music educators, Logan first gained attention after winning the Montreux Jazz Festival Jury and Audience-Choice awards.
We caught up with Logan to find out more about her and the upcoming show.
Q: Can you tell us about your show? What can fans expect when you come to the Fitton Center?
A: "I bring my band – piano, bass, drums and two back-up singers. The six of us are there on stage for you. I take the audience through my story, essentially, through song. So, the audience can expect to hear songs from my debut album, "Impossible," which did really well last year. …We run the gamut of emotions. We're knee-slapping, and then we are doing something serious, and somebody leaves inspired."
Q: Can you talk about the title-track, “Impossible?”
A: "I wrote that song at a rough time in my life, but the song is actually intended to be really hopeful. We've all been through seasons of our life when we hit rock bottom and we feel like there's no way out, but that song is called "Impossible," because what I wanted to achieve seemed impossible, but it wasn't, and it happened. We bring that song more toward the end of the show, after we've had fun for a while. It's a part of the show where the audience and I get to connect with each other on a level that we all can relate to."
Q: Tell us about your musical journey?
A: "As a kid, I was in musical theater productions, because I just needed to sing on stage. It was so essential. I didn't know what to do other than to find musical theater around us, because that's all my parents and I saw. It's all that was available.
“Then, when I was 12, I picked up the trombone, and was exposed to jazz, suddenly. So, all of this pop and show-business music that I learned was now integrating with jazz legends, because I’m playing trombone and I have to learn how to play jazz, so I’m singing jazz as well.
“Then, throughout my high school and college years, I got a full ride to Berklee College of Music, which I’m super grateful for. While I was there, I really dove into songwriting. So, the evolution of all the things from my past, before that, were incorporated into my songwriting. It was hard to depart from anything that had been so ingrained in me since the beginning.
“Then, throughout the past few years, I’ve had the chance to collaborate with a lot of different artists, and all the while, doing my own shows. I definitely consider myself a songwriter at the core. A lot of songwriters will write songs for other artists, or they will write songs just for the sake of writing songs, but the real reward for me is doing them on a stage, and doing them in a show. I’ve never done anything else besides music.”
