What do you call a bikini-clad tattoo dude with a sponge and bucket? In this case, an animal lover.

Tumbleweed Connection, 454 E. 5th St. in Dayton's Oregon District, is getting its hoses ready for the fifth annual Critter & Car Wash for Charity from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.

The wet and soapy event benefits Adopt-a-Pit animal rescue and Summit for Soldiers, a PTSD awareness campaign.

Tumbleweed bartender Kristin Todd, an event organizer, said the event started due to a bet Oregon District fixture Brad Darrell lost to his friend Troy Murrin.

“Brad said if Troy grew his beard out for six months, he would wash his car in a bikini. It was a running joke,” Todd said. “I said, guys you could make it a whole big thing and wash more cars and take donations for charity.”

Todd said the event grew bigger than anyone expected.

About $700 was raised the first year, and proceeds donated to charities has doubled every year since.

“Who wouldn't pay to see Brad wash cars in a bikini?” Todd asked.

It is an all-age event, but organizers would like to remind people that there will "be half-clad mens and womens with an abundance of alcoholic beverages in attendance."
