Tickets now on sale for ‘Spongebob,’ ‘Rent’ and more Broadway shows

Single tickets for nearly all of the Victoria Theatre Association’s 2019-20 season are now available.

With the exception of the spring Broadway Series presentations of “Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Cats” scheduled to go on sale in the fall, patrons will be able to purchase tickets to the majority of the Broadway Series as well as Star Attractions, National Geographic Live! Series, Family Series, and the Vic 150 Music Series including newly formed Classic Albums Live!

“The 2019-2020 season is off to a great start,” according to VTA President and CEO Ty Sutton. “Patrons are returning for a fresh and exciting Premier Health Broadway Series and are also exploring the wide array of programs we are presenting in all of our venues. New Series like Classic Albums Live!, expanded Family Series shows as well as jazz, blues, gospel, and country on the Universal 1 Credit Union Vic 150 Series are proving to be very popular.”

“Based on patron feedback, VTA has adjusted the Premier Health Broadway Series start times,” continues Sutton. “Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night performances will now begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday remains at 8 p.m. Saturday performances remain at 2 and 8 p.m. Sunday performances change to 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.”

In addition, those choosing to purchase tickets to four or more shows can purchase a customized Create Your Own (CYO) package. Bikini Bottom is bound for the Gem City along with a legendary disco diva and a few old favorites as the Victoria Theatre Association announces its 2019-2020 Premier Health Broadway Series and Projects Unlimited Star Attractions.

 

The six-show Broadway Series features the Ohio premiere of the outstanding 2018 Tony Award-winning revival of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's 1990 Caribbean-flavored musical "Once On This Island," the Ohio premiere of 2018's incredibly entertaining, Tony Award-winning "The Spongebob Musical," the 20th anniversary tour of Jonathan Larson's 1996 Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical "Rent," the regional premiere of 2018's delightfully feel-good jukebox musical "Summer: The Donna Summer Musical," the local premiere of 2017's Drama Desk Award-winning Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and the return of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic, record-breaking 1982 musical "Cats."

The Projects Unlimited Star Attractions, equally diverse and incorporating variety from Broadway to family-friendly concerts, includes the local returns of Black Violin, The Midtown Men and "The Color Purple" along with new options such as the African-American music/culture showcase "We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," perfectly timed for Black History Month, and the Japanese drumming extravaganza "Drum Tao 2020." Additional Star Attractions will be announced as the 2019-2020 season approaches.

WE SHALL OVERCOME: A CELEBRATION OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

This production, conceived by producer/musical director Damien Sneed, ties together music and culture including gospel, classical, jazz, Broadway, and spirituals – from Aretha Franklin to Wynton Marsalis, from Duke Ellington to Stevie Wonder, from Nina Simone to Donny Hathaway, from traditional spirituals to music from “The Wiz.” These African-American music traditions are interwoven with spoken word from Dr. King’s recorded speeches. Sneed has conducted and collaborated on major original works for Wynton Marsalis, regularly accompanied Jessye Norman, collaborated with Lawrence Brownlee, and toured extensively with Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and The Clark Sisters.

In addition, based on patron feedback, the VTA is changing its curtain times for the Broadway Series. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening performances will now begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. remain. However, Sunday performances will switch to 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Renewal packets for all current Broadway Series Season Ticket holders will mail the morning of March 1. The deadline for current Season Ticket Holders to request changes to Broadway Season Ticket packages is March 15. The deadline to renew 2019-2020 Broadway Season Ticket packages is March 28. Season Ticket sales for the Family Series and National Geographic Live! Series, sponsored by Subaru of America and Wagner Subaru, will be announced later in the spring along with the Discovery Series and the Universal 1 Credit Union VIC150 Music Series presentations.
