I love the beautiful flowers of spring and summer. Now you can preserve these plants by creating a pressed art piece that can brighten your home for years to come.

And hunting for the perfect mixture of flowers and leaves can also be a great activity for families.

Supplies needed

Items I purchased:

• Black cloth — $1.99 at JoAnn Fabrics

• Picture frame — 99 cents at Goodwill

Items I already had:

• Fresh flowers and leaves

• Large book or phone book

Directions

1. Find flowers that can easily be pressed. You will want to find some that do not have a large center, but ones that can instead easily lay flat. I have found that flowers such as pansies, Queen Anne’s lace, and daisies all work well. You can also do this using leaves.

2. Place your flowers inside the center of a large book. If you can’t find a large book. Place them in the center of a smaller book and then just place a few other books on top to add weight. This will help to press the flowers.

3. Take a small piece of black fabric and arrange the flowers on top of the fabric to the design you like.

4. Place the glass from your picture frame on top of the flowers, holding them in place.

5. Attach the glass to your frame and secure the back so the flowers stay firmly in place.

6. Now, your artwork is ready to be displayed on your bookshelf or in your home.
