Huber woman named DealPro, wins spot at national conference

Savings.com, a Web site that provide ways for shoppers to save money, held a contest recently to find people across the country who are passionate about finding deals and coupons.

And one of the 25 people chosen lives here in the Miami Valley.

Kristin Peoples of Huber Heights was named one of Savings.com’s DealPros after she submitted a video about herself and her Web site, both of which are devoted to finding bargains.

“I just got a video camera; I felt kind of kooky doing it,” Peoples said. “I’ve never really entered anything else.”

Peoples said she has been operating her site, newcouponmom.blogspot.com, for about six months.

She said she focuses on saving money, using coupons and rebates, and noting free items and samples. She posts between five and seven times a day.

“I put lots of kid things and family things on there,” said the stay-at-home mom.

As part of her DealPro honors, Peoples is being flown out to San Francisco this week to take part in Savings.com’s inaugural Save-Up conference Thursday, Nov. 5.

“We’re flying them out for a daylong summit, lunch, winetasting ... and there will be lots of swag!” said Lisa Picasso, a public relations representative for Savings.com.

Some of the giveaways include a flip cam, a Wine.com gift certificate and chocolate from Ghiradelli.

Picasso said the primary reason for the conference is education.

“There will be two panels; one on social media, and the other on the world of savings and online coupons,” Picasso said.

She added that there are plans for the DealPros after the conference, as well. They will be contributors to Savings.com, and members of a savings-oriented networking community.

“(One of the main goals) on the site is to create a network of deal hunters,” Picasso said.

In addition to the exposure to be gained as a DealPro, Peoples, who also has a fan page on Facebook and a Twitter account, has started teaching coupon classes.

“I have an online class set for (8 to 9:30 p.m.) Nov. 18, and all the (proceeds) go to the Cincinnati food bank,” the Cincinnati native said.

The cost of the Couponing 101 class is $15. Visit newcouponmom.blogspot.com for more information or to sign up.

For anyone else who thinks they might make a good DealPro, you could have a chance in the future as well.

“We are hoping to host these (conferences) multiple times a year,” Picasso said.
