Arrests made during Green Beer Day

OXFORD — Boisterous Miami University students continue to celebrate Green Beer Day in uptown Oxford, where bars opened as early as 5:30 a.m. Thursday, but in terms of mischief it has been a relatively quiet day.

Oxford police said they have made six arrests and issued seven citations, mostly for underage drinking and open containers. But as of mid-afternoon Thursday there had been no serious incident connected with the festivities.

Last year there were seven arrests and five citations on Green Beer Day, a sharp drop from 2011 when the total was 20 arrests and 47 citations.

Law enforcement officers were out in full force.

“All shifts have been brought in on overtime,” said Oxford Police Sgt. Jon Varner, “and we’ve teamed up with the Miami Police Department and all of their officers.”
