Arson hits Van Lear St. house targeted before

UPDATE @ 8:45 p.m. July 16

A family whose home was torched Wednesday night had just moved out because of recent arson at their residence.

“I don’t know why they did this. First the garage. Now it’s the house,” said Van Lear Street resident Mollie Fields.

The house that caught fire in the 100 block of South Van Lear Street is likely a total loss, Deputy Chief Scot Rowlett said.

Firefighters have handles multlple trash and garage fires in this area in the past few weeks. They want the arson to stop, before someone gets hurt.

“The arsonist who has done this has told someone. Somebody knows something about this,” Rowlett said “You need to tell someone before another family is affected.”
