Champaign County sheriff's deputy charged with OVI

A Champaign County sheriff's deputy has been accused of drunken driving early Sunday morning.

Part-time Deputy Bradely S. Coder, 26, of Springfield, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Another driver reported a blue Honda sedan parked in a ditch at the 1800 block of West Ohio 29 in Salem Twp.

When a deputy arrived, he reports that he found Coder asleep at the wheel and vomit on the ground. The car was on and in drive, according to the incident report.

The suspect reportedly told the deputy he "had a few beers," and had pulled over to sleep.

Deputies took Coder to the Urbana Police Division. His blood alcohol content was .16, deputies said, twice the legal driving limit.

Coder was released to his spouse and wasn't booked into the Tri-County Regional Jail.

He was arraigned Monday and is due in court for a pre-trial hearing on June 11.
