Double-fatal crash suspect hit with Taser during arrest

Angel Rojas, wanted for April 7 crash, was found in motel

The suspected driver who fled a double-fatal crash two weeks ago was subdued with a Taser during his arrest tonight at a Springfield Twp. motel.

Sgt. Richard Dixon of the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Angel Rojas was found at the motel, located at 3200 E. National Road, around 8:30 p.m. The 19-year-old was arrested by troopers and U.S. Marshals, Dixon said.

No further information was available regarding how authorities learned he was staying at the motel, nor whether anyone receives a reward that was offered for his apprehension.

Rojas is the suspected driver in the April 7 crash around 1:45 a.m. on Columbus Avenue in Springfield Twp. The crash injured two passengers and left two passengers dead: 18-year-old Tristin K. Sherman, a senior at Springfield High School, and 21-year-old Juan S. Compton.

The suspected driver who fled a crash that left two people dead was captured tonight.

Angel Rojas was brought to the Clark County Jail at 9 p.m. after he was arrested in the 3200 block of East National road by the U.S. Marshals Service in conjunction with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, jail staff confirmed.

He was booked on a warrant for the felony hit-and-run crash and on suspicion of resisting arrest, according to the jail.

UPDATE @ noon (April 18)

A reward is being offered for the capture of the suspected driver, 19-year-old Angel Rojas, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Springfield Post.

The reward is being offered through the U.S. Marshal’s Office, but the amount is not being disclosed, according to OSP.

The April 7 fatal crash happened in the early morning hours on Columbus Avenue near Croft Road in Springfield Twp.

The 1997 Nissan went off the side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Those killed were 18-year-old Tristin K. Sherman, a senior at Springfield High School, and 21-year-old Juan S. Compton, a Springfield High graduate.

Two other teen passengers survived the crash.

Rojas fled the scene of the crash.
