Driver cited in wreck on I-75 South near Sidney

Van had been emptied of explosives before rollover, fire official says.

UPDATE @ 10:55 p.m.: The driver in the rollover crash on I-75 South near Sidney will be cited for failure to control a motor vehicle, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol post at Piqua.

UPDATE @ 9:53 p.m.: The driver injured in the rollover crash on I-75 South on the bridge spanning the Great Miami River had just emptied his van of explosives at a stop before the crash, Sidney Assistant Fire Chief Scott Boyer said.

The van ended up in the emergency stopping lane on the bridge, off the right side of the interstate , on its top, Boyer said.

The damage to the van was such that the company name or logo was difficult to make out, Boyer said, noting there are quarries in the area where explosives might be used.

The driver’s injuries were believed to be minor. He was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital.

FIRST REPORT

The driver of a full-size van was taken to a hospital tonight after a rollover crash that briefly shut down I-75 South near the Great Miami River.

The driver, who was alone, suffered injuries believed to be non-life threatening, according to a dispatcher with the Piqua post Ohio Highway Patrol. Troopers briefly shut down both lanes of the interstate because of the accident.

The accident was reported just after 9 p.m.
