Kohls employee arrested in theft of shorts had outstanding warrant

MIDDLETOWN — An employee at the Kohls Distribution Center on Salzman Road was arrested Friday after allegedly stealing more than $150 in merchandise.

Around 2 p.m. Friday, a 24-year-old Middletown man was confronted by Monroe police after an employee reported to officers the man had stolen two pairs of basketball shorts, according to police reports.

Monroe police said the man was caught on security cameras and had put on the two pairs of shorts under his own clothes. The suspect was allegedly wearing the stolen clothing when police arrived.

According to police reports, the suspect confessed to the theft at the distribution center at 3500 Salzman Road in a written statement saying the thefts were an act of stupidity, according to police.

In total, the suspect’s thefts amounted to $180 in items, including six pairs of shorts, two New York Yankees T-shirts, and an Ohio State University T-shirt.

The man also had an outstanding warrant through Middletown police. The suspect was issued a criminal summons to Butler County Court Area III.
